In order to develop medium and heavy commercial vehicles, Daimler AG planned to enter the Indian market in a joint venture with Hero MotoCorp in 2008. In accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), a joint venture known as Daimler Hero Commercial Vehicles (DHCV) was established in July 2008 with a 60% stake held by Daimler AG and a 40% stake held by Hero Group.
Due to the Indian economy's slump, Daimler AG and Hero Group announced on April 15, 2009, that they were dissolving their joint venture, Daimler Hero Commercial Vehicles Ltd. Hero Group opted to concentrate on its core business and give Daimler AG its 40% ownership part in the DHCV joint venture back. Daimler AG rebranded DHCV to Daimler India Commercial Vehicles after acquiring a 100% interest (DICV).
